| Diego Nunes vs. Manny Gamburyan |
88.7 Decision 15:00 |
||
|       This was a pretty solid fight between two guys that I'm not real knowledgable about. I used to be a big fan of Manny Gamburyan after the Ultimate Fighter, but sort of lost track of him in recent years. This fight was pretty simple, Nunes kicked the shit out of Manny's thigh, leaving a huge welt on his left leg. Gamburyan had a couple of solid takedowns which allowed him to kind of hang in there for the 3 round fight. In the end, I gave the fight to Nunes, 29-28, and all of the judges agreed. | |||

| Dong Hyun Kim vs. Sean Pierson |
85.8 Decision 15:00 |
||
|       This was a pretty standard fight, not a lot of standout moments. Dong Hyun Kim kept throwing the front Karate Kid crane kick or whatever, and actually landed it once almost knocking out Pierson in the second round. Other than that, both guys showed solid grappling skills, Kim with Judo, Pierson with wrestling. In the end, Dong Hyun Kim clearly won all 3 rounds, and the judges agreed, giving the unanimous decision victory to Dong. | |||

| Jim Hettes vs. Nam Phan |
90.7 Decision 15:00 |
||
|       Jesus Christ, who the fuck is Jim Hettes? He's the MAN, that's who he is! He basically treated Phan like a bitch during the entirety of all 3 rounds, slamming him on the ground, tripping him, beating the shit out of him while on the ground, punching him & kneeing him while standing, throwing submission after submission at him, in the end, Nam Phan looked like an absolute amateur, and Jim Hettes looked like a championship contender. I'm extremely excited about watching Jim Hettes fight again in the future, and I'll probably go back and try to check out some of his past fights now, because this is the first time I've ever seen him. | |||
| Alexander Gustafsson vs. Vladimir Matyushenko |
84.8 TKO (Punches) 2:13 |
||
|       Joe Rogan was talking about how Gustafsson is a true contender or something, but I've never heard of him before, and I wasn't that blown away by this fight. I honestly was rooting for Matyushenko, so maybe my review here is a bit biased, but this was overall a pretty lame fight. They both kind of stood around, boxing sloppily for a couple of minutes, and then Matyushenko jumped face first into a jab by Gustafsson, basically knocking himself out. If Chuck Liddell isn't fighting anymore, why the fuck is Matyushenko still here? | |||
| Johnny Hendricks vs. Jon Fitch |
91.0 KO (Punch) 0:12 |
||
|       Johnny Hendricks punched Jon Fitch in the face, and Fitch got knocked the fuck out. 12 seconds, that's all folks. Is Johnny Hendricks legit? This fight ending completely shocked me. Not sure what else to say, other than, does this actually make Hendricks the #2 welterweight in the world? I have absolutely no idea what's going on right now. | |||
| Nate Diaz vs. Donald Cerrone |
91.6 Decision 15:00 |
||
|       Damn! Those Diaz boys can box! It's funny though, because their punches look so soft, but you can tell they hurt, especially since they throw hundreds of accurate punches every fight. Donald Cerrone's only real offense during the fight was his ability to trip Diaz using his kicks. Diaz on the other hand, just kept punching Cerrone in the face, and the body, the face and the body, etc... It was pretty brutal. Nate Diaz wins via unanimous decision. | |||
| Alistair Overeem vs. Brock Lesnar |
90.8 TKO (Kick & Punches) 2:26 |
||
|       This fight was ridiculous. Overeem made Lesnar look like a little baby. They both started out striking, Lesnar looked nervous, Overeem threw some HUGE knees to the body of Lesnar, finished him off with a kick to the liver, and then sealed the deal with a punch to the body of Lesnar while he was curled up on the ground in the corner. It almost looked like Lesnar threw the fight, he had absolutely no heart, and no interest in even attempting to continue the fight. Granted, if Overeem were to kick me in the liver, I'd probably die immediately, but Lesnar is fucking huge, so this was a pretty disappointing way to see him go. After the fight was over, Lesnar officially announced his retirement. | |||
| OVERALL | 89.7 | ||

This was a decent event, but it made me miss the good ol' days where Pride would have a HUGE New Years fightcard, UFC would have one, and ALL of the best guys would get stacked up there at the end of December. This card had a lot of disappointing moments, but a few solid ones as well. Brock Lesnar is retired now apparently, Alistair Overeem is kind of just taking his place, Nate Diaz fights exactly like Nick Diaz (which is a good thing), Jon Fitch looked bad, Johnny Hendricks looked great, and Jim Hettes has become one of my top prospects for 2012.
