These guys both came out swinging, and they both got dropped to their knees from some punches, but they both got back up, and continued to fight. They clinched, and Barnett pressed Arlovski against the fence. They traded places a few times, and then split up 90 seconds into the round. They traded a few shots, and Barnett pressed Arlovski against the fence again. Barnett stomped on some feet, and then Arlovski tripped him to the ground, landing in half mount. Arlovski stood up, and mostly just stalled while they traded leg kicks with Barnett laying on his back. The referee let Barnett stand back up with 90 seconds left in the round. Arlovski rocked Barnett with some punches, but Barnett just smiled and charged forward, pressing Arlovski against the fence again. That was a wild way for the fight to start, but round one goes to Arlovski, based mostly on the takedown, since the standup was pretty even.
Barnett started the second round with an overhand right, and then pressed Arlovski against the fence again. Arlovski spun him around, and the referee split them up 90 seconds into the round due to inactivity. Barnett landed some more punches, they clinched, and they both landed some wild punches. These guys are both getting rocked often in between the lengthy clinching sessions. Arlovski tripped Barnett to the ground with 2 minutes left in the round, but Barnett continued to roll, immediately sweeping Arlovski, which allowed Barnett to pass to full mount with 90 seconds left in the round. Barnett dropped some elbows, and some punches, chopping up Arlovski's face on the ground. He postured up with 30 seconds left in the round, and really unloaded on Arlovski, Arlovski gave up his back, and Barnett continued to pound the shit out of him. I'm scoring that a 10-8 round for Barnett.
They both came out swinging in the third round, they both landed some brutal punches, Arlovski poked Barnett's eye with a thumb, the referee didn't see it, so the fight continued, Barnett went for a Kimura, rolled to the ground, and landed in half mount near the fence. Barnett threw some elbows to Arlovski's jaw, while working for another Kimura attempt from half mount this time. Barnett passed to full mount, unloaded some big punches, Arlovski gave up his back, Barnett locked on a rear-naked choke, and finished the fight by submission a couple of minutes into the third round. That fight was pretty awesome, and a great way to cap off a pretty shitty card. I couldn't be happier with the fact that Barnett (Pride) just beat Arlovski (UFC). Especially since Arlovski hit him with that eye poke, and still got submitted. Great win for Barnett.

The first round was kind of slow paced, with both guys exchanging strikes. Rothwell looked like he was throwing bombs, but they didn't seem to do any damage. Barnett on the other hand was landing some nice technical strikes, and he busted up Rothwell's nose, and opened up a cut under Rothwell's left eye. I gave the first round to Barnett based on damage. The second round was more of the same, with Barnett strategically picking apart Rothwell with punches, until Barnett shot for a takedown, Rothwell locked on another weird guillotine choke, he used that to pin Barnett, and then Barnett tapped. I've NEVER seen Barnett even close to tapping. He tapped to Cro Cop twice, once because of a shoulder injury, and the second time was due to strikes, but... Rothwell just legit tapped his ass out with a choke. THAT IS FUCKING INSANE. Maybe now people won't make fun of Mitrione for getting tapped with that same choke. Rothwell is a fucking monster.

Nelson secured two takedowns in the first round, but Barnett beat the shit out of him from the clinch, with a lot of big knees and some heavy shots. So even though Nelson ended the round in top position, I still gave the first round to Barnett for his striking & the amount of damage dealt. They traded some SERIOUS shots in the second round, and Barnett really started to fuck up Nelson with some brutal knees from the clinch, along with some nice elbows & punches. That second round was a brutal war, with Barnett coming out on top. Nelson spent the first 2 minutes of the third round stalling in the clinch. There were a few decent exchanges, but Nelson spent pretty much the entire round just pressuring Barnett, bringing the fight to a grinding halt. Nelson looked like he was ready for a nap when that third round ended. Nelson applied more pressure, but Barnett was in better shape, so I gave all 3 of those first rounds to Josh Barnett. Barnett was fucking KILLING Nelson against the cage in the fourth round, as Nelson was gurgling with every breath, and Josh was SMASHING him with brutal elbows, and knees, and punches, nearly finishing the fight with his aggressive striking. Nelson took him to the ground though, Barnett went for a leg lock, Nelson grabbed his back, and they went back to their feet, where Nelson was able to stall some more against the cage, but Barnett was back in control by the end of the round. They both looked pretty much spent by the fifth round, so neither guy really delivered much damage. That round could have gone either way, but in the end, I thought Barnett won AT LEAST the first 4 rounds. The judges agreed, giving Barnett the unanimous decision victory.

FUCK! Josh Barnett is my favorite fighter, but he just got destroyed by the guy I had ranked as the #2 Heavyweight in the world. So, I guess if you're going to lose, you should lose to guys like that. But yeah, Barnett shot in for a takedown, pressed Browne up against the fence, Browne did his trademark "elbows to the side of the head of the guy trying to take me down" move, and knocked Barnett the fuck out at ONE MINUTE of the first round. Travis Browne is no fucking joke man, give this dude a title shot SOON.

Josh Barnett in the hizzy!!! I have to be honest, Josh Barnett might be my favorite fighter of all time, so I have no business judging any fight of his. With that being said, I like Frank Mir as well, but he always ends up disappointing me. SO! I was happy to see Josh Barnett beat the living crap out of Mir, completely dominating him as far as I'm concerned, pinning him against the cage, punching, throwing huge heavy knees, big elbows, just BRUTALLY beating Mir. Mir landed a few good shots, but nothing as significant as what Barnett was landing. In the end, Barnett CRUSHED Mir's skull with a HUGE knee with Mir's head pinned against the cage, and Mir collapsed like a ragdoll. The referee stopped it, and Mir got up REALLY quickly, so MAYBE it was premature? But realistically, if the fight would have continued from that position, Barnett would have killed Mir. So yeah, good stoppage, great fight, amazing UFC return by one of my favorite fighters of all time, and JOSH BARNETT IS BACK BITCHES!!!

Josh Barnett is one of my favorite fighters, especially when factoring in personality. He's just a cool dude! With that being said, who the fuck is Nandor? And why is he fighting one of the top heavyweights in the entire world? Anyway, Barnett took Nandor to the ground quickly, he showed some submission skills, eventually locking on an arm-triangle a little after 2 minutes into the fight, and Nandor just gave up. I REALLY hope Barnett ends up in the UFC, and I hope he destroys some people. Nandor looks cool, but he didn't seem to have any fighting skills whatsoever in this fight.

Fuck. Josh Barnett has been my favorite fighter ever since his Pride days, but I feel like this marks the official end for the entire Pride Heavyweight Division. Barnett didn't look very good at all in this fight, but at least he stuck it out until the end. Cormier won all 5 rounds by beating Josh's ass basically. So, good showing by Cormier, he's a really solid heavyweight, but I can't help but walk away from this extremely disappointed, due to the fact that Josh looked like he's done for. (P.S. I guess Josh broke his hand in the first round, which fucking sucks. So, I'm going to blame that for the entire fight's outcome.)

This was one of those good matchups pulled straight out of Pride FC. Kharitonov landed some solid punches, and then Barnett took him to the ground from the clinch, landing straight into full mount, where Barnett was able to beat him up a little bit. Kharitonov did a good job bucking to avoid letting Barnett deliver much damage. Kharitonov eventually rolled over into the turtle position, as Barnett continued to ride him from the back mount. Kharitonov rolled back over to his back, and Barnett slipped in the arm-triangle choke, finishing the fight via submission near the end of the first round. GREAT win for Josh Barnett.

Rogers threw a leg kick, and Barnett shot in for a takedown, scooped Rogers up into the air, and put him on his ass. From there, Barnett got the full mount, and beat the shit out of Rogers on the ground, dominating him for the duration of the first round. Rogers tried to get kind of wild in the second round, and Barnett threw him across the cage, landing in full mount again. This time, Barnett immediately started working for an arm-triangle choke, as he forced Rogers to tapout early in the second round. Solid performance for Josh Barnett.

These guys met in the center of the cage, they clinched, Barnett threw Santos to the ground, mounted him, Santos worked his way back to his feet, and then tried to throw a jab, but Barnett ducked under it, got the clinch again, and shit stalled for a minute or so. Barnett threw some wild punches, missed with most of them, continued to look for a takedown, Santos stayed on his feet this time, and kept clinching against the cage. Barnett finally tripped him back to the ground, into full mount, where barnett was able to finish him with a series of punches. Decent win for Barnett I guess, but who the fuck is Geronimo dos Santos? And why is he fighting one of the Top 5 Heavyweights in the world?

Barnett got dropped in the first minute of the fight with a big punch, but I couldn't tell if he actually got dropped, or if it was a slip. Either way, he was right back up, beating up Mighty Mo with big knees from the clinch, followed by some stalling. They broke apart, and Barnett tried to work a front kick, which eventually lead to a kick straight to the dick, which dropped Mo. He was down for quite a while, as the doctors covered him with towels, and did a bunch of weird shit, eventually bringing in an army of doctors. After a long break, they finally started back up, and they were hopping around like nothing had happened. Barnett started shooting for sloppy takedowns, and some hard leg kicks. Barnett finally scooped him up, dropped him, cranked on a Kimura, and before it was event bent at all, Mo tapped out. Decent win for Barnett, minus the long pause for the groin shot. After the fight, Barnett told him he could give him a free groin shot, so Mo threw a knee and hit Barnett in the nuts. That was weird, but good sportsmanship for Barnett I guess.

Barnett secured a takedown in the first round of this fight, and beat the crap out of Yvel with some basic ground & pound, while looking for armlocks from Yvel's half guard. By the end of the round, Barnett was in full mount, slaughtering Yvel with brutal elbows, to the point where the fight probably should have been stopped. Barnett took the fight to the ground again in the second round, once again got full mount, and beat the living shit out of Yvel with some hard ground & pound. Barnett was dominating Yvel, until he went for an armbar, and Yvel rolled out of it, ending up on top, where he landed a couple of punches before the bell. The final round started with another easy takedown for Barnett, where he once again got full mount, and then beat the fuck out of Yvel for 3 more minutes, before the referee finally stopped the fight. Great 13 minute ass beating delivered by Josh Barnett in this fight.

Pedro Rizzo used to be cool, but lately his glass jaw has been ruining his reputation. Josh Barnett on the other hand, is one of my favorite fighters in the world, especially from his days in Pride, but lately he's been kind of boring. He cuts EXCELLENT promos, but his fighting has been slow as of late. This fight was slow & boring during the first round, but the second round ended quickly with a great KO delivered by Barnett's left hand. So yeah, glad he won, but this fight wasn't anything special. I really hope the final 2 fights of the night kick a lot of ass.

Monson's only real move in this fight, was to clinch and hope for the best. Barnett did a good job picking him apart with punches & leg kicks, using his clear reach advantage to it's fullest. Monson secured a takedown in the second round, and almost got caught in a triangle choke. They got back up, and then Barnett took Monson to the ground. They got back up, and Barnett beat the shit out of Monson with knees from the clinch, and then secured another takedown near the end of the round. Monson tried with all of his might to secure another takedown, but was unsuccessful. Barnett cranked on a toehold at the end of the fight, and Monson was saved by the bell. Decent fight overall, even though neither fighter really came close to finishing at all. Barnett wins via unanimous decision.

This was a good solid fight by two of my favorite fighters from Pride. Josh Barnett pretty much dominated Yoshida for all 3 rounds, so it was fairly predictable, but it was still exciting just seeing these guys get back in the ring. Josh Barnett had a few highlights throughout the fight, like the Fedor vs. Randleman style suplex that smashed Yoshida's head & neck against the ground. Barnett also had a lot of good leg kicks, some decent punches, he escaped a couple of submissions, and he finished the fight with a heel hook which forced Yoshida to submit in the third round. Great fight for Barnett, and Yoshida hung in there, but he really didn't stand much of a chance.

Dang yo... Heh... Well these guys fought in the semi-finals of the open weight tournament, and Josh Barnett ended up winning by decision (VERY CLOSE FIGHT). Now they fight again, and the fight goes to another decision (this time Nogueira wins). Both fighters are improving their striking skills, both guys are improving their submissions, both guys are improving their overall fighting skills. It's hard to criticize this fight at all. Both guys brought their A game, and both guys gave it their all. VERY CLOSE FIGHT again, and I rated it a draw, so either fighter could have won this one. So kudos to Nogueira for securing the win.

Josh Barnett is one of the Top 3 Heavyweights in the world. Pawel Nastula wasn't even ranked in the Top 10 (according to the announcers). And, at this point, I'd have to agree... The neat thing was, Pawel Nastula pretty much dominated Josh Barnett during the first round, taking him down a couple of times, and working with some pretty decent submission attempts. At the end of the first round, Josh Barnett locked on a kneebar, the bell rang, Barnett held on for another second or so, which ended up injuring Nastula (but both fighters went to their corners like nothing had happened...) Once the second round started, Nastula almost knocked out Barnett with a flurry of punches, but the fight went to the ground again. After some more wrestling on the ground, Barnett grabbed Nastula's leg for an ankle lock, forcing Nastula to submit. So Josh Barnett wins by submission in the second round (after losing the rest of the fight). Nastula is someone to keep an eye on for future reference.

So here we are, with the final fight of the Pride Absolute Open-Weight Tournament, which started with 16 fighters, and it all ends here. Crocop defeated Wanderlei Silva earlier in the night with a KO kicked to the head. Josh Barnett defeated Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira, via decision. To cut to the chase, Barnett tried to stand with Crocop for a little bit, but he wasn't going to be able to win that way, so he tried to take the fight to the ground a few times. Crocop kept getting back to his feet, and eventually, Crocop took Barnett to the ground after almost knocking him out, and he threw 100+ punches & hammerfists to Barnett's face, the back of his head, the side of his head, everywhere in between. Eventually Barnett just tapped out for some reason, and held onto his eye, so I guess maybe he hurt his eye? (Which wouldn't surprise me since he got punched in the eye a million times...) But yeah, overall, this was a pretty good fight, and Mirko "Crocop" Filipovic is THE FUCKING MAN, because he destroyed the competition in this tournament, which pretty much means he's the best fighter in Pride, other than MAYBE Fedor Emelianenko. We'll get to find out who's the best out of those two, once Mirko gets his title shot. Good show!

Decision (Split)
15:00
This was a brutal 15 minute war, which kind of sucks, since the winner (Josh Barnett) has to go on to fight Mirko Cro-Cop in the finals, on this same card. So the fact that Cro-Cop tore right through Silva, and Barnett had to endure a 15 round war with Nogueira, that gives a huge advantage to Mirko Cro-Cop in the finals. As far as THIS fight is concerned though, it was VERY close. I thought that Nogueira was winning during the first round (10 minutes), but that second round I have to give to Barnett, because he almost finished Nog at the end of the round with a kneebar (saved by the bell). So yeah, I gave the fight to Barnett for almost finishing it there at the end, but it honestly could have gone either way. Josh Barnett wins by SPLIT decision.

Wow... I've never been impressed with Josh Barnett, AT ALL. He's always seemed fat & slow to me for some reason. Mark Hunt on the other hand, is fat & fast. So my prediction for this one, was that Mark Hunt would knock out Josh Barnett... BUT... Fuckin' oh boy, was I wrong. Josh Barnett dominated during this match. Barnett took Hunt to the ground quickly, and then locked on the kimura for the submission victory. Barnett took out Hunt in less than 3 minutes. AMAZING!!! Barnett might be a force to be reckoned with in the later rounds. For the first time ever, I'm actually impressed with Josh Barnett.

Fuck Josh Barnett. I really don't like that guy, and I didn't want him to win this fight at all. I'm not an Aleksander Emelianenko fan at all, Fedor is the man, but Aleksander is not. I still wanted Aleksander Emelianenko to crush Barnett, and he was during the first round, dominating with the striking, but they both got winded way too quickly, and the fight ended up kind of sucking. Eventually Josh Barnett took Aleksander Emelianenko to the ground in the second round, and then locked on some sort of arm lock pretty easily. He tried once, Aleksander escaped, then gave his arm back to him in the same position, and then tapped out quickly. Bleh, this fight was decent, but neither fighter really did a very good job in my opinion. Josh Barnett is moving on to the second round of the tournament, but if you ask me, he'll get crushed by his next opponent, no matter who that may be. And did I mentioned he called out Fedor at the end of the fight? That was retarded... Decent fight, just... Meh, I don't like Josh Barnett.

This was a pretty terrific fight. Nakamura was a lot smaller than Barnett, so he was the definite underdog, but he really proved to have a LOT of heart in this one. They both came out swinging at the start of the fight, and there were a few good flurries, but nothing that really did much damage. Then they both went to the ground, and Josh Barnett showed off his incredible submission skills, by trying ankle lock after leg lock after toe hold after, etc... Just lots of leg submission attempts, and he even locked them on a few times, but Nakamura somehow kept getting out of them. Eventually, Barnett got Nakamura's back, locked on the rear-naked choke, and won the fight by submission in the first round.

Sometimes a few great flurries can really help out, when it comes to the entertainment aspect of a fight. When you're watching a 5 minute fight, that is filled with 3 minutes of non-stop action, it's hard not to come out feeling like it was a great fight. In the case of this rematch between Filipovic & Barnett, the match lasted the entire 3 rounds, and only had maybe a minute or two worth of awesome flurries. This means that we're left with 15-20 minutes or something, of pretty much 2 guys laying on top of each other, without ANY SUBMISSION ATTEMPTS whatsoever. I picked Filipovic to win the match, because he seemed more active, and the 3 judges agreed with me. Mirko "Cro-Cop" Filipovic wins by decision. Technically decent, but very boring fight.

Submission (Shoulder Injury)
0:46
Meh... This should have been one of the greatest fights ever, since Barnett is "sort of" the UFC Heavyweight Champion going into this fight (other than the fact he got fired for steroids, etc...) But he made his Pride debut here, after winning his last fight against Randy Couture, so this was SORT OF like "UFC vs. Pride" in a round-a-bout sort of way. Barnett came out like a beast, swinging wild punches, and he grabbed Cro Cop for the takedown. The problem is, when they went to the ground, Barnett apparently dislocated his shoulder somehow (even after watching the replay, it was unclear what happened). But yeah, Josh tapped, and then Cro Cop punched him a couple of times for good measure, before the referee could stop the fight. So... Decent win for Cro Cop, I guess, but it sucks that Barnett's debut ended with a fluke injury.

Josh Barnett started the fight by immediately getting the body lock on Schilt, he then took him to the ground, where he dominated him with his wrestling skills for most of the first round. The referee stood them back up, but Barnett went straight back in for another takedown, this time it took longer to secure it, but he was still able to get Schilt on the ground, where he started looking for leg locks, before Schilt was saved by the bell. Barnett started the second round with another takedown, followed by some more leg lock attempts, but this time, Schilt opened up on Barnett, and beat him up with punches on the ground to help him escape. Barnett went for an armbar, and a triangle choke, but Schilt was able to beat his way out of both of them, but Barnett still secured another takedown, ending up on top at the end of the second round. Barnett secured another takedown to start the third round, got the full mount, beat up Schilt for a couple of minutes with ground & pound. With about one minute left on the clock, Barnett started looking for arm locks, and with about 12 seconds left on the clock, Schilt was forced to tapout to an armbar. Nice submission victory for Josh Barnett.

This fight was pretty crazy. Randy Couture took Barnett to the ground in the first round, and controlled most of that round. Barnett did a good job defending himself, not really absorbing much damage, but Couture clearly won that round. The second round looked like it would be more of the same, until Barnett went crazy, got on top (magically?) seemingly out of nowhere, and then he started raining down gigantic punches & elbows for over a full minute, before the referee eventually stopped the fight. Josh Barnett just CRUSHED Randy Couture, awesome title fight!

It's always fun watching Josh Barnett kick some ass, so this fight was fun. Bobby Hoffman is a scary dude (literally), so it was fun seeing Barnett take him to the ground, dominate him for most of the fight with his grappling, and eventually beat the shit out of him in the second round, to the point where Hoffman tapped out because the punches caused too much pain. Josh Barnett is a badass!

Yeah! Josh Barnett took Schilt to the ground early, pretty much dominated on him on the ground, pounding at his face, and just outgrappling him all around. Schilt cut Barnett with something, but Barnett was able to finish the fight with some brutal elbows, before transitioning into an armbar for the submission victory, and it LOOKED like Schilt's arm might have snapped. Awesome big win by Josh Barnett.

Man, that sucks. Pretty great fight, both guys stood toe to toe with each other, and it was pretty much just a giant boxing / brawl. And both of these guys (in my opinion) were top rated Heavyweights, so the winner deserves a title shot. With that being said, I gave the first round to Barnett, which was interesting, since it was 100% striking, but since he continued that tactic for the second round, Rizzo was able to throw two specific punches, that knocked Barnett on his ass. Pretty great knockout, even though I hate seeing my favorite fight get knocked out like that.

Solid debut for Josh Barnett. Gan McGee surprised me, by taking Barnett to the ground, and completely dominating him in the first round. The second round looked like more of the same, until Barnett was able to wear out McGee, and eventually Barnett got full mount, and punched McGee in the face until the referee stopped the fight. Great comeback, and solid debut for Barnett.
