Cummins worked her boxing for 45 seconds or so, and then shot for a takedown, but Delboni did a good job quickly getting back to her feet against the fence. The rest of the round took place in the clinch for the most part, with Cummins controlling Delboni, as she was able to oustrike her by a slight margin. Cummins sort of pulled guard with a guillotine attempt with a minute left in the round, but she wasn't able to get that, so she quickly switched to an armbar from her guard, she ALMOST had it, but Delboni was saved by the bell. Round one goes to Cummins.
Cummins continued to work her boxing in the second round, and then she took down Delboni 2 minutes into the round, landing in side control this time, where she was able to drop a few short elbows before Delboni worked her way back to her feet. Delboni then scored a takedown, but found herself caught in a guillotine, but Cummins only had butterfly guard, so she wasn't able to crank at all. You could argue that Delboni won that round by spending so much time on top, but Cummins was able to outstrike her on the feet, and she was the only one with any real offense on the ground, so I have Cummins ahead 20-18 going into the final round.
Cummins continued to beat up Delboni on the feet to start the third round, and then she shot for a takedown halfway through the round, couldn't get it, so they reset and went back to boxing, which still favors Cummins. In the end, I scored this fight 30-27 for Ashley Cummins, and all 3 judges scored it 29-28, giving her the unanimous decision victory.
Alba tried to keep Cummins at bay by pumping a meaningless jab, but Cummins ran right through it, clinched, and pressed Alba against the fence. She dropped down for a deep double leg, and dumped Alba to the ground a minute into the opening round. Cummins threw some short punches from half mount, she threw some elbows, and then tried to pass Alba's half guard, but Alba was clinging to the leg of Cummins for dear life with a tight leg triangle around her thigh. Cummins continued to grind all over Alba with short elbows, while showing off some heavy top control. Round one was clearly a one-sided round for Ashley Cummins.
Cummins threw a hard kick, and then took down Alba with a body lock 30 seconds into the second round, landing right back into half mount again. Cummins continued to grind all over Alba, while peppering her with punches & hard elbows. Cummins was trying to setup an arm-triangle choke, and finally locked it on halfway through the round, but Alba was able to slip out, and stand back up a few seconds later. Cummins immediately pressed her against the fence to work her over with some striking from the clinch, before tripping her to the ground again with 90 seconds left in the round. Cummins dropped some more elbows, and the round eventually ended. Cummins is dominating Alba in this fight going into the final round.
Cummins whipped Alba with a head kick, followed by some punches, and then she took down Alba again, 30 seconds into the final round, landing inside her guard this time. Cummins continued to beat up Alba with short punches & elbows for the duration of the final round, leading to the extremely clear cut 30-27 unanimous decision victory, and you could even argue that some of those rounds were 10-8 rounds as well. Congrats to Cummins for the solid win to get back on track after her tough loss to Jinh Yu Frey 6 months ago.
Cummins came out swinging with some big punches, she kicked Frey in the head, and then shot for a single leg takedown. Frey stuffed the shot, and spun Cummins around to take control of the clinch. Frey then scored a takedown, and landed inside the guard of Cummins. Frey threw a big elbow, and Cummins tied her arms up. Cummins tried to setup an armbar, but Frey scrambled out of it, and Cummins stood back up, and started working for another takedown by pressing Frey against the fence. Cummins put some serious effort into another takedown attempt, and Frey stuffed the shot in the center of the cage, and then they reset back on their feet. Cummins threw some big punches, another nice kick, and then Frey took her down again, as Cummins sort of teased her with a guillotine choke. She gave that up quickly to work for something else from her guard. Frey threw a couple more punches, and then stood up with 90 seconds left in the round. Cummins stood up with a minute left in the round. They clinched in the final seconds, and Frey took control of the clinch to end the round. Round one goes to Frey. That was interesting, since I thought Cummins looked better on the feet, and Frey looked better on the ground, which is the opposite of what you would expect from these two.
Cummins started the second round with some more punches, another nice kick to the body, and then Frey clinched and tried to press her against the fence again. Frey scored another takedown 30 seconds into the round, showing a clear strength advantage, and she settled back into the guard of Cummins. Cummins threw up an armbar a minute into the round, and Frey went into defense mode. That armbar looked close, but Frey was able to yank her arm free. Cummins slapped on another tight armbar, and Frey had to flip to escape. Frey slapped on another armbar, that went nowhere, so Cummins stood back up, and they reset back on the feet with 2 minutes left to work. Cummins threw some more punches, and Frey shot for another takedown, landing back inside the guard of Cummins. Cummins slapped on another tight armbar, and finished the round still clinging to the armbar. I'm giving that round to Cummins based on all of those tight armbars, even though Frey held top position for most of the round. I have this fight all tied up going into the final round.
The final round started with Frey shooting for another takedown from the clinch, as she took top control again, 45 seconds into the round. Frey landed a couple of punches, but Cummins did a good job tying up her arms. There was a brief scramble 2 minutes into the round, and Frey quickly took the back of Cummins, and started working for a rear-naked choke. Cummins spun out of that, and secured half guard, while Frey continued to grind her near the fence. Frey only landed a few strikes from the top, before Cummins was able to pull guard again, with 90 seconds left to work on the ground. She slapped on another armbar, but Frey was able to pull free again. Cummins went for a late triangle choke attempt, but that went nowhere. Frey will more than likely win this fight 29-28 based on top control, but I wouldn't be shocked if SOMEONE gives the fight to Cummins, 29-28. All 3 judges gave the fight to Frey, and two of them gave her all 3 rounds. Congrats to Frey for showing a solid wrestling game.
Cummins came out swinging, as she connected with a LOT of punch combinations in the opening minute of the first round. They clinched early, threw each other around a little bit, and Cummins pressed Brown against the fence, but Brown tripped her and ended up in full mount. Cummins was able to pull guard, but Brown beat her up with some violent punches from the sky, all while pouring blood down at Cummins. Cummins slapped on a tight triangle choke halfway through the round, but Brown was able to scramble out of it, and she locked on an inverted triangle of her own. Cummins fought her way out of it, but when she pulled her head free, she rolled too far, Brown ended up on top, but Cummins reversed her, and took top position, and then Brown scrambled out of that, and they ended up in a wild leg lock battle. The round ended with Cummins working for a triangle, where she had an arm AND leg of Brown trapped. That round was fucking insane, and I have no idea who won that round.
They traded some strikes to start the second round, Brown threw a kick, Cummins caught it, and took Brown to the ground, landing inside her guard. Brown was working a high guard, looking to setup MAYBE another triangle, while also throwing some elbows up from her back. Cummins did a good job avoiding too much damage, as she eventually passed to side control, as she was sort of setting up an arm-triangle choke. Cummins slowly passed to full mount, as she continued to squeeze with a tight arm-triangle choke. She passed to the proper side, continued to squeeze, and Brown was struggling to break free from the choke. Cummins finally let it go, and worked some ground & pound, while they traded some elbows on the ground. The first round could have gone either way, but the second round 100% goes to Ashley Cummins. This fight has been an awesome 10 minutes of grappling so far.
They both came out working their boxing in the final round, and Cummins was landing the better shots, and showing the superior footwork. Brown's nose was jacked, and Cummins looked sharp. Cummins took down Brown halfway through the round, Brown tried to catch her in an armbar, but Cummins passed to side control, and continued to work some short elbows. Cummins went for another arm-triangle choke, and as Brown tried to roll out of it, Cummins took her back and continued to smother her. Cummins locked on a rear-naked choke with 15 seconds left in the fight, which caused blood to spray out of Brown's nose. That fight was fucking insane! Cummins should definitely win this fight, at least 29-28. All 3 judges agreed, giving her the hard fought unanimous decision victory. That fight was fucking awesome!
Technical Submission (Knee on Neck Choke)
These girls came out boxing, trading punches for the first 40 seconds or so at a pretty good pace, before Cummins shot for a double leg, taking Smith to the ground, landing in half mount. Cummins passed to full mount, and then took Smith's back 90 seconds into the round. She punched her in the head a few times, and then went for a rear-naked choke. Smith fought it off, so Cummins punched her a few more times, while she continued to ride her back. Cummins postured up halfway through the round, and rained down some bombs, beating the shit out of Smith before trying for another choke. They scrambled around a little bit, Cummins continued to ride her back, and continued to beat the shit out of her with punches. Nikki finally spun out of it and ended up on top inside Ashley's guard with a minute left in the round. Cummins slapped on an armbar with 20 seconds or so left in the round, and she cranked the shit out of it, but Smith was able to hold on until the bell. Great round for Cummins.
The second round started with a few punches & kicks going both ways, before Smith moving forward, pressuring Cummins toward the fence, until Cummins shot for another takedown, pinning Smith in the center of the cage 45 seconds into the second round with a nice trip, landing in side control this time. Cummins slowly worked her knee forward into the neck of Smith, putting her to sleep just 90 seconds into the second round with a knee on neck choke. That was a badass submission, and a fantastic Bellator debut by Ashley "Smashley" Cummins.
TKO (Knees & Punches)
Cummins came out aggressively, throwing some clean punches, and then shooting for a takedown against the fence. She completed the takedown 30 seconds into the round, and pressed Green into the center of the cage. Cummins immediately took side control, and Green tried to spin out of it, but Cummins continued to rotate around to keep her position while dropping punches & short elbows. Cummins looked like she was trying to setup some sort of choke, but Green did a good job turning away from danger. Green tried to stand back up halfway through the round, but Cummins took her back, and started digging for a rear-naked choke. Cummins continued to dominate Green on the ground all the way through the round, beating the shit out of her with big punches while constantly looking for submissions. I scored that round 10-8 for Ashley Cummins.
Green was able to keep the fight standing in the second round, and she threw Cummins around in the clinch for a while before absolutely demolishing her with massive knees to the body & head, some heavy punches, more knees, more punches, Cummins eventually collapsed 3 minutes into the round and the referee was forced to stop the fight. That was a fantastic comeback victory for Lanchana Green after getting dominated for the first 5 minutes of this fight. Great show overall for both fighters.
Grasso is apparently a boxer, so Cummins wanted to take the fight to the ground at the start of the fight. It took her half of the first round just to secure a takedown, and once they hit the ground, Grasso locked on an armbar, and had Cummins trapped for the last half of the round, and was punching her in the face while trying to crank on the arm. Nice round for Grasso. The second round was a little more competitive, with both girls throwing a lot of punches, both of them looked a little clumsy, but yeah, decent amount of action I guess. Grasso's striking looke pretty crisp in the third round, as she continued to beat up Cummins on the feet. In the end, I would give the fight to Grasso, 30-28 probably, with the second round being a draw. Good fight overall, and solid win for Grasso in her Invicta debut.
Decision (Split)
So far, I'm not real impressed by the performances of the fighters on this card so far. Hopefully the main card is better than these 2 prelim fights. In the end, both girls came forward for most of the fight, and basically had a kickboxing sparring match. Not a lot of real damage was done by either fighter, and in the end I gave the fight to Emily Kagan. 2 of the judges agreed, so she wins via split-decision.
KO (Knee to the Body)
This fight consisted of a 2 minute feeling out process, measuring distance, throwing jabs, etc... Cummins then shot in for a takedown, got caught up in Calderwood's clinch, and Calderwood landed some knees to the body of Cummins. They spent the next minute or so, continuing the feeling out process, and then Calderwood landed some really nice punches to the face of Cummins, and then followed them up with a big knee to the body, causing Cummins to collapse immediately, holding her stomach. Maybe she broke a rib or something? I'm not sure, all I know is, once that knee connected, Cummins was down for the count. Awesome debut for Joanne Calderwood.
The first round was close, with both girls looking pretty even on the ground, with some back & forth action, but not a lot of highlight reel stuff happening. The second round had Cummins taking Bagherdai to the ground, where she beat her up for most of the round, and clearly secured the scorecards for the second round for Cummins. The third round was more of the same, with Cummins pressuring Bagherdai, beating her up against the cage, controlling her with the clinch, and some solid wrestling. So yeah, nice win for Ashley Cummins, 30-28 on my scorecard, with the first round being a draw.
